Graphene quantum dot nanocomposites: electroanalytical and optical sensor technology perspective

Abstract Electroanalytical and optical techniques are widely used in the development of nanomaterials-based sensor platforms. These have a quick response, high sensitivity, selectivity. nanomaterial-based sensors must be able to detect biomarkers, pathogens, toxins, pharmaceuticals biological matrices associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases. Considering these pathophysiologies, numerous investigations been undertaken develop for early diagnosis treatment, utilizing nanomaterials such as quantum dots. Graphene dots (GQDs), which ideally nanometer-sized graphene fragments, recently received increased attention due their excellent physicochemical properties fast electron mobility, photostability, water solubility, biocompatibility, specific surface area, nontoxicity. Apart from mentioned above, GQDs provide π – interactions, electrostatic, covalent interactions an analyte, ease synthesis well ability combine other nanomaterials, enabled use various sensing This review summarizes recent advances GQDs-based nanocomposites applications, focus on electroanalytical techniques, current challenges future prospects.
